Marana Breaks Ground on Water Reclamation Facility Expansion
The Town of Marana broke ground on the Phase 2 expansion of the Marana Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) on September 22, 2026.
The project marks a major infrastructure investment that will double the facility’s rated wastewater treatment capacity and support the community’s long-term approach to responsible water management.
The facility currently has a rated capacity of 1.5 MGD average annual daily flow.
The Phase 2 expansion will expand the existing Phase 1 treatment train to increase the facility’s rated capacity to 3 MGD average annual daily flow.
Planning for the expansion has been underway for more than a decade with the creation of the WRF Facility Master Plan in 2016, which established a roadmap for future facility expansions.
The Phase 1 expansion became operational in 2018, and design for the Phase 2 expansion began in 2024.
Project partners for Phase 2 include Archer Western and Carollo.
Construction is expected to continue through 2028, with new flows targeted for October 2028.
